Split stitch is a fantastic beginner stitch. You can see the texture it can bring to a project instead of the smoother back stitch. Can you see how it looks like a chain?
Start by making one regular stitch by coming up at the tip of the tear drop and down a stitch length away.
When you come back up you will split your threads. Since I use stranded embroidery floss I suppose it’s more dividing them than actually splitting them, but you get the idea. I used four strands of floss for this tutorial so there are two threads on each side of my needle. Where your needle splits should be closer to the point you just came from.
Continue stitching and splitting along your line.
You can see your little line is starting to look like a chain, pretty cool!
